ESP and Varieties of Consciousness
Dr. Nancy Sondow · President, ASPR
The talk will discuss how ESP information enters the mind during various states of consciousness — including relaxation, dreaming, daydreaming, and the hypnagogic state induced by Ganzfeld stimulation.
About the speaker
Dr. Nancy Sondow has been ASPR President since 1993. She earned a BA in Mathematics from Barnard College, Columbia University, and an MA and Ph.D. in Psychology in the Experimental Cognition program from the City University of New York (CUNY). She has designed and conducted experiments investigating psychic phenomena at CUNY, at Psychophysical Research Laboratories (PRL) in Princeton, NJ, and at the ASPR. She received the Mid S. Weiss Award for the most outstanding contribution to the literature to appear in the Journal of the American Society for Psychical Research in 1979, for a Ganzfeld experiment conducted at the ASPR. She is interested in precognitive dreams, theoretical issues, and finding variables relevant to ESP functioning — such as expectation, mood, cognitive strategies, target characteristics, and interpersonal and psychodynamic factors — and is particularly interested in understanding the meaning that psi interactions have for those who experience them.
