Terms of service
These terms govern your use of the American Society for Psychical Research’s website and its archive. Please read them; by using the site you agree to them.
1.Who we are
The American Society for Psychical Research is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1885, incorporated in the State of New York, at 475 Riverside Drive, New York, NY 10115. In these terms “the Society”, “we” and “us” mean that organization, and “you” means anyone using this site.
2.Using the site
You may read the site, use its free features, and consult openly available material without an account. You agree to use the site lawfully and not to interfere with its operation or with anyone else’s use of it.
3.Permissible use of content on this site
The site and its contents — text, images, recordings, scans, catalogue records and design — are owned by the Society or used with permission, and are protected by copyright and other laws. The material, its digitization, description and arrangement belong to the Society.
You may not republish or redistribute any of the material on this site. You may not use it commercially or strip identifying marks from the material. Systematic or automated downloading of the contents of the site is not permitted.
Please contact the ASPR if you would like to request permission for use of any of the material on the site. Write to aspr@aspr.com.
4.Case reports and other things you send us
Case reports are the Society’s primary research material, and reports sent to us become part of its permanent research record. By sending one you give the Society permission to keep it, study it, and use it in research.
Publication is separate, and it is your choice. The report form asks how — or whether — your account may be quoted, and we treat an unanswered question as no permission. You may file a report anonymously, in which case we store no name or contact details at all.
Please do not send us confidential information belonging to somebody else, or material you do not have the right to share.
5.The precognition test
The test on this site is a public demonstration of a method used in the Society’s research. It is not a measurement of your abilities, not a diagnostic instrument, and results from it are for your interest and education. Anonymised trial data may be used in the Society’s research.
6.Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- break the law, or infringe anyone’s rights, using this site;
- attempt to gain access to accounts, systems or data that are not yours;
- scrape, crawl or bulk-download the archive, or circumvent access restrictions;
- upload malicious code, or interfere with the site’s operation;
- misrepresent yourself, or submit deliberately false case reports.
7.Links to other sites
Some pages link out — for example to recordings hosted on YouTube. Those sites have their own terms and privacy practices, and we are not responsible for their content.
8.Disclaimers
The Society investigates questions that remain open. Material in the archive records what was reported, claimed and argued at the time; publishing it is not an endorsement of it, and nothing on this site should be taken as established scientific fact, medical, psychological, legal or financial advice.
The site is provided “as is” and “as available”. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, or error-free.
9.Changes
We may change these terms. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept it.
10.Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict of laws rules, and the state and federal courts of New York County, New York will have jurisdiction.
